1993 – 1994Developed the First Nations Advocate position for B.C.’s Children’s Hospital, B.C.’s Women’s Hospital and Health Centre, and Sunny Hill Hospital. This resulted in a $100,000 grant from the Vancouver Foundation.
1993 – PresentBC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre, developed the BC Women’s Hospital Family Practice Maternity Service. This is the first time at BC Women’s that a specific clinic has been established to service the needs of family physicians and women, designed for the family practitioner who is no longer doing obstetrics or has never done obstetrics. In addition, it will serve certain risk groups: substance abuse, immigrants, etc., and function as a place to teach prenatal care to family practice residents.
1993 – 1998Developed the physician back-up group for the Midwifery Program, BC’s Women’s Hospital and Health Centre. This is a successful model of general practitioner/ midwifery collaboration. I had the quality assurance function for the collaboration and worked directly with the Director of Midwifery in establishing joint family practice-midwifery policies.
